About Hot Stones Massage
The application of heat through the heating of Basalt Stones and Massage induces relaxation and allows recovery and repair of the body to take place more efficiently. Stone therapy was used in Chinese medicine more than 5000 years ago and was recorded in the Yellow Emperor’s book and was referred to as the ‘mother of acupuncture’. Native Americans used Basalt stones. They understood the connection between the unique energies of the stones and hands. As a contemporary therapy, stone massage was introduced in 1993 by Mary Nelson.
Who can enjoy Hot Stones Massage
Hot Stones Massage is suitable for most adults but there are certain conditions where it should be avoided so before treatment begins a thorough consultation takes place. All consultations are confidential.
What happens during a Hot Stones Massage
Each treatment is tailored to your individual needs which is discussed in consultation. After disrobing you are invited to lay on the couch, covered by towels, in readiness for the massage. A base oil is used to enable hands and stones to glide over the area. (Modesty is a paramount priority at all times.)
After your treatment
Your body responds in many ways – circulation increases enabling organs to function efficiently, metabolic rate rises improving the process of food and toxins, lymph function is increased leading to internal cleansing but more importantly the application of heat penetrates into underlying muscle fibres, relaxes muscle response, reduces spasticity in muscle - you should rest afterwards to aid the body’s natural healing process. Avoid eating a heavy meal within 2 hours of treatment. Alcohol, caffeine based products and tobacco should be avoided for 24 hours and instead drink plenty of still water as this helps to flush away toxins.
